Captain Paul’s Sailing Ship

Painted completely within Inkscape - September 2026

Printed on Red River Paper’s Palo Duro 315, a 100% cotton paper meeting archival standards.

This starts with my cousin Paul who has a sailboat which he annually cruises from Annapolis, MD to Nova Scotia.

Rather than trying to be a hermit, Paul generously invites family, friends, and even strangers to join the boat on many of its stages.

In the summer of 2026, my oldest grandson Eli Hurley took his 3rd tour with Paul - this time in Nova Scotia.

Eli is into photography, using older 35mm and view camera equipment as his media - which came from his Grandmother.

He has a great vision and takes wonderful views/perspectives.

We were attending a family affair in mid-August.

Eli was sitting on my right hand side, and my youngest grandson, Sam, was on my left.

We were joking and talking, when Sam asked if I had seen the great photograph that Eli took.

Sam is a very talented artist, who’s now studying architecture.

Eli showed me the picture, and I said Wow! Can I make a better print of that, and perhaps make a painting from it?

The picture is beautifully composed, and I hesitated to alter it too much.

The curved sail lines - the straight rigging lines and masts created a perfect starting point.

I used some of the tools in vector graphics

Several proofs were created

A single print, what I call a monoprint, was created: 1 print on cotton archival paper - 36" height x 24" wide
