We have a small cactus that flowers late each spring.

After creating a small, 5” x 7”, print of the cactus in a pot, I opted to focus on just the flower.

Rather than the cactus leaves, I created an abstract background.

The first view is on all cotton paper in a format of 36” wide x 24” tall.

But I wanted to also print it in a small format on Japanese Washi paper.

The Japanese Washi paper is very thin, 1/3rd the weight of normal copy paper.

Because the paper is so thin, ink levels had to be reduced, the paper’s fibers play an active role in the print.

The paper’s weight requires hand feeding the paper through the printer.

Two prints were made at 12” wide x 12” tall.
